History of the Club

“The OFWC began with Flo Umengan (1984-1995) that helped a day care center in our land, victims of Mt Pinatubo, typhoons etc. After wards, madam Julie Corpuz (1995-2004) came in the association providing aide to (friendship home foundation Inc.) a child caring charitable institution run by BVMC sisters in Valencia, Negros Oriental. Ms Elsie Maranan followed and served long enough to hear the child name Xander De los santos from Cebu City, with Congenital heart disease operated on by Herbie Fund Foundation thru our help. This child is now a full fledged nurse in America. She once sent a letter expressing her heartfelt gratitude to the association. Other presidents soon followed with the same vigor, vitality in their own ways for service to humanity up to the present.

The founding mothers of OFWC had been motivated by the clarion call of “service to Humanity ” when they originally formed the association in 1982. It is the foundation to which the club was created up to this day. There have been numerous annual fundraising geared towards helping various local and international charities of the Ontario Filipino women’s club. These charities include the Herbie fund foundation at the Hospital for sick kids foundation, The red door foundation for battered women, food banks, feeding the homeless, and Cerebral Palsy foundation. The worthy practice of our predecessor officers and members are still being followed onward by the present crops of active young and old members.”
